Police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, disclosed that the situation occurred around 3:00 a.m. after a loud sound triggered concern among residents and transport workers, leading to the swift arrival of security personnel at the scene.
According to the command, initial findings revealed that the explosion came from a compressed natural gas-powered luxury bus operated by Silver Luxury Travel, with the cause traced to excessive gas pressure inside the tank due to overfilling.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle has been removed from the park and the surrounding area secured, noting that no injuries or damage to property were recorded, while normal activities have since resumed.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident and to prevent future occurrences.
Operatives from the Nigeria Police Force Bomb Disposal Unit were also deployed as a precaution, although officials maintained that there was no indication of any explosive device or security threat.
Residents had earlier reacted to the loud blast with concern, as initial reports suggested a possible bomb explosion, but the police reassured the public that the situation was not related to any form of attack.
The command urged the public and media outlets to verify information before dissemination, warning that the circulation of unconfirmed reports can trigger unnecessary panic, especially on security-related matters.
