The Federal Government has ordered the expulsion of an American missionary, Alex Barber, following allegations that his public comments could worsen tensions in parts of the country, particularly Plateau State.
The decision was confirmed by presidential aide Abiodun Essiet, who stated that the missionary’s activities were being reviewed over concerns tied to national security and community stability.
Authorities claimed that remarks made by Barber during an engagement in Jos were followed by unrest in the area, although he has denied any link to violence or wrongdoing.
Barber, who had been involved in humanitarian efforts such as providing support to displaced communities and infrastructure projects, maintained that his mission was purely humanitarian in nature.
The development was reported by Daily Post Nigeria, which noted that government officials considered the expulsion necessary to prevent further escalation of tensions in affected regions.
