Nigerian Musician Don Igwe Sparks Debate Over Controversial Remarks on Empowering Wives. Read original....
Nigerian musician, Don Igwe, has stirred widespread reactions on social media following controversial remarks he made during a podcast interview about men who empower their wives financially.
Igwe argued that a man’s problems begin the day he opens a business for his wife or girlfriend.
“Your problem starts as a man the day you open a business for your wife or girlfriend. The day you empower your wife, that is the day your problem starts,” he said.
The artist went further to express distrust in women, citing a case of a couple married for 50 years. According to him, the husband later discovered through DNA testing that only the last of their four children was biologically his.
“I have seen a couple that stayed 50 years in marriage and in the 50th year, they started having problems. This man had to go and do DNA, and he found out that it was only the last daughter that belonged to him. Fifty years of a Christian woman that stays at home, somebody you can vouch for,” he claimed.
Igwe also criticized women who retain their maiden names after marriage, insisting they do not truly belong to their husbands.
“You are not married. You belong to your father’s house. Let that your father you are answering his name marry you,” he added.
His comments have since sparked heated debates online, with many Nigerians challenging his views while others defended his stance.
