Show Compassion, Serve the People — Atiku’s Eid Message to Nigerian Leaders |
Atiku Abubakar Urges Leaders to Embrace Compassion and Peace During Eid al-Adha
Abuja, Nigeria – June 4, 2025 – Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on leaders across the country to embody the virtues of compassion, peace, and selflessness in their service to the people.
In a message shared via his official Twitter handle on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Atiku emphasized the spiritual and moral lessons derived from the historic traditions of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and upheld by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
“The essence of Eid-al-Adha, rooted in the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim and upheld by Prophet Muhammad, calls us to reflect kindness and peace in our lives,” Atiku wrote.
He used the opportunity to stress the importance of leadership that prioritizes the collective well-being, urging those in positions of authority to adopt a spirit of forbearance and genuine commitment to the greater good.
“Leadership demands forbearance and commitment to the greater good,” he stated. “I appeal to those in authority to show compassion and prioritize the welfare of the people, in line with God’s command.”
Atiku’s message resonates deeply with the central themes of Eid al-Adha, a sacred Islamic holiday that commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to God, even to the point of sacrificing his son. The festival, marked by prayer, charity, and acts of sacrifice, serves as a reminder of faith, obedience, and humility.
The former Vice President’s statement comes at a time when many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, and social unrest. His appeal is widely interpreted as a call for more humane governance and a renewed focus on the needs of the people.
