Tems' management paid a Nigerian woman $2,000 for her intelligent comment on a viral X post.
The incident occurred on X (previously Twitter) after Tems mentioned her physique, notably her bottom, during ongoing talks.
Muyiwa Awoniyi, Tems' manager, gave a Nigerian woman $2,000 for defending the singer amid an online argument regarding fat shaming.
The controversy started when Grammy-winning performer Tems addressed ongoing comments about her figure in a viral post on X (previously Twitter). Frustrated by the repeated comments on her physique, particularly her bottom, Tems wrote:
“Okay, 7 years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it but you are all weird. ‘It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.’ Dog, IT’S MINE. ‘Show us your bumbum’ lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see🥰’ Nah show ME yours first?? See how that feels? It’s just a body. I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body, I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum.”
Her message elicited numerous responses, including disrespectful and negative comments. One user commented:
“Real one knows she just have big laps not actual ass.”
In defense, Tems’ manager Awoniyi (@IAmDonawon) slammed the platform’s users, tweeting:
“No single sense do they have on this app. Not even half a sense.”
Another user questioned his generalization, accusing him of exaggeration. But a woman identifying as @chidimmaibe chimed in: "It's not just one person. That's only one person they offered as an example. There are several uninformed and idiotic tweets about it."
