Egyptian Police Headquarters fire leaves 38 people injured.

Some of the injured, according to a police spokesman, were treated on-site while others were sent to the hospital.

According to officials, the cause of the fire at the Ismailia building was not immediately known.

Two aeroplanes and at least 50 ambulances were dispatched to the area.

According to the health ministry, of the 26 injured patients who were sent to a nearby hospital, 24 had "asphyxiation" injuries, and two had burns. Twelve more people received treatment on the spot.

In addition to a "structural safety review" of the structure, Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik requested a probe into the fire's origins.

The number of police officers and detainees who spent the night inside the premises has not been disclosed by the authorities.
