The child, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared via video connection at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, October 3. He admitted to running over Marcia Grant, 60, with her own car in Greenhill on April 5 when he was 12 years old, resulting in her death by reckless driving.

A second accusation of having a kitchen knife in his possession was earlier admitted by the kid.Read full article

When the kid first appeared in court in April, prosecutor Gary Crothers informed Sheffield Youth Court that officers on the scene had recorded the boy asking, "Is she dead?" and saying, "Looks like I got my first kill?" as well as, "It was an accident, I swear."

The problem with these words, according to his attorney Ben Campbell, is "what you can infer from them under all the circumstances.

Mr. Crothers described the incident to the juvenile court as follows: "On the relevant evening, about 7pm, this defendant is seen on CCTV attempting to seize Mrs. Grant's car.

Mrs. Grant follows the car in an effort to obstruct him.

"The car is seen on CCTV being driven a little recklessly at this point, but it does stop.

"Mrs. Grant takes a position behind the car. She falls to the ground on her back as the car reverses, hitting the ground with her head.

She was pinned beneath the automobile, and her husband made an attempt to pry the defendant free by smashing the window.

The truck then "reversed at some speed, causing the catastrophic injuries to Mrs. Grant," according to the prosecutor.

Despite having emergency services dispatched outside her home, she was declared dead there.

The child was scheduled to go on trial this week for murder. On December 1st, he will receive a sentence.

In a statement issued by her family following her passing, Mrs. Grant was remembered as a "warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, as well as a pillar of her community."
