HomeENTERTAINMENT Fuel Subsidy: Tinubu Approves Import of Petroleum Products To Six Companies. byBendelnews Nigeria •12:01:00 PM Six new companies have been given permission by the Federal Government, which is led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to import petroleum products into Nigeria.According to Bendelnews the managing director of the Nigeria Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDRA), Farouk Ahmed, informed State House reporters of this at the Presidential Villa.Ahmed disputed claims that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had authorised the Dangote Group to import petroleum, pointing out that the organisation lacks the authority to make such a decision. In addition to the six companies that were approved, several enterprises requested authorizations to import petroleum, according to the NMDRA MD.He revealed that various businesses submitted applications for licences to import fuel, and that anyone might submit an application to enter the port because the authority is available to everyone who is interested in importing. Six companies have stated that they want to import petroleum in July, according to Ahmed. Of course, everyone else is free to import in December, November, or at any time, but as of this morning, six people have indicated that they would like to import petroleum in July. The fact that there are interests is what makes it so beautiful because it allows them to import by giving them access to foreign currency."Now, as we go along, of course, we'll be briefing you on the progress or the achievements so far, but the important thing is that NNPC has 30 days' worth of fuel sufficiency, so we do not anticipate any gap in supply or in distribution."Meanwhile, Tinubu has started taking action to prevent ship owners from pulling their vessels out of service due to what they perceive to be high fees. The Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Zacchaeus Adedeji, warned that Nigeria cannot afford to have vessels not move into and out of the nation during an interactive session with shipping stakeholders at the State House. At least two ship owners reportedly stated they were keeping their vessels out of Nigeria after receiving a string of multimillion-dollar tax claims that sought to recoup unpaid charges from 2010 to 2019.
