A statement published by the command spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the unfortunate occurrence that took place on Saturday. According to the statement, the incident took place in the hamlet of Tsurma, which is located in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
"As soon as the information was received, officers dug the newborn baby from the toilet and arrested the woman who was believed to be the mother.
"The infant was pronounced dead at the Dutse General Hospital shortly after being taken there by emergency personnel.
According to the statement, "preliminary investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Amadu Sale, a.k.a Dan Kwairo, of Akar village in Kiyawa LGA, who alleged to be responsible for the unwanted pregnancy and conspired with the suspect to bury the baby after delivery." Amadu Sale is also known as Dan Kwairo.
It has been reported that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Effiom Ekot, gave the order for the matter to be handed over to SCID Dutse in order to conduct an investigation in private.
