LaLiga: Barcelona to sue Atletico over Griezmann

Barcelona to sue Atletico over Griezmann

After a dispute between the LaLiga clubs over the conditions of striker Antoine Griezmann's loan agreement, Barcelona is "preparing legal action" against Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann played with Atletico Madrid last season after moving there on loan from Barcelona.

After scoring  133 goals in 257 games during his first stint with Los Colchoneros, the France international is said to get along well with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

According to Marca, Atletico Madrid could anticipate legal action regarding Griezmann's contract since Barcelona believes the player has satisfied the "£35 million" buyout provision in his contract by participating in more than 50% of the available minutes last season.

Barcelona believes that because of this, Grieamann is an Atletico Madrid player and should be compensated as such.

Atletico Madrid disputes this since they see the deal as lasting for two years.

Griezmann, who has had a fantastic start to the season thus far, has been used by Simeone as a late-game substitution in consideration of the clause.

In four league outings for Simeone's team, Griezmann has scored twice, and in midweek's Champions League match against FC Porto, he scored the game-winning goal in extra time.
