PDP Crisis: Wike fumes about the resignation of the Chairman BoT

Wike fumes about the resignation of the Chairman BoT

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers, referred to the resignation of Senator Walid Jibrin as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) as an insult to Southerners.

The BoT meeting in Abuja on Thursday saw Jibrin's resignation.

On Thursday, Wike gave a speech at the opening of the Ahoada campus of Rivers State University.

Some claim that Wike intends to ruin the party since he lost the election's primary, the man stated. These folks are mentally ill, the presidential primaries are past, and the matter is closed. For the love of God, a competition must have a winner and a loser. I don't regret anything.

"I promised Nigerians earlier that I would talk when the time was right, so let me give you a brief explanation now so you can understand the type of nation we are and start to wonder whether you are a citizen of this one, Wike stated.

"Ayu declared he would retire if the PDP nominated a northerner as its presidential candidate. Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, hosted a meeting of the Northern PDP caucus in his Abuja home.

"After the National Convention, the party's candidate visited me at my Abuja home on Monday around 10:30 am. He first told me that I wanted to work with him and then he said Ayu had to go. When I questioned why, he responded that the party chairman will always be from the South when a candidate hails from the North.

So all I'm suggesting is to put into practice what you taught me. Exactly what crime have I committed? It is not about Wike; rather, it is about the character of those who would want to govern us.

"I ask the PDP presidential nominee to refute this. I'll say more things to Nigerians if he refutes this. Simply put, enough is enough.

"They demanded that the PDP BoT Chairman resign; who is making reference to the BoT Chairman? What is the BoT's function? BoT is an advising body; it does not make decisions.

The party chairman, presidential candidate, or president, as the situation may be, will convene and make a decision as it is right now. Who will make decisions on behalf of the South if the Chairman and the candidate are both from the North? It is not about whether or not I will chair a party. I just ask that you pick the two top seats. You have already chosen the President, after all. You are unable to do that.

"What has killed Nigerians are leaders that lack integrity and fulfill their commitments. Consider the insult: You have called for the PDP BoT Chairman's resignation, thus you are aware of this and now concur with us that these two should not be together. But what we're actually arguing is that the BoT is not the stance we all agreed upon, but rather the party's chairman.

"Once, the General and the candidate went to the BoT Chairman and requested that he quit; in exchange, they would provide him with an advisory position. What advisory function are you intending to assign to the BoT, which is an advisory body? That's an insult to us. Let them win first, and you'll see.

"What makes them so haughty? They are haughty because they think the Presidency is supporting them. What they fail to realize is that when the same individual supports an APC Presidential candidate, they fail. I'll reveal to Nigerians who that person in the presidency is when the time is right.
