Kola Kamaldeen, the assistant inspector general of police in charge of zone six in Calabar, has warned officers that the force will no longer tolerate harassment of civilians.
The Inspector General of Police recently dismissed two employees from the police after they physically assaulted two citizens, and Kamaldeen responded by saying, "We expect our men to be respectful to members of the public.
Our salaries are funded by the taxes people give to the government. Our employer is them.
According to Kamaldeen, the top leadership of the force had frequently urged officers and members to "behave as civilly since they are also Nigerians."
"We must permit the slogan "Police is your buddy" to positively come to life.
He said, "We must be welcoming to members of the public and let the rule of law flourish."
