U-20 Women's World Cup: Falconets beat Korea Republic, reached quarterfinals

In the present FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, the Nigerian U-20 women's team has advanced to the quarterfinals.

This comes after a similarly tight 1-0 victory against Korea Republic at Alajuela.

In the highly anticipated top-of-the-table match, the Falconets came out on top with all three points.

Prior to the game, Korea Republic led the standings on goal differential after defeating Canada 2-0. Nigeria defeated France by a score of 1-0.

Until midfielder Esther Onyenezide's strong curling shot sailed past Yoonji Do for the game's lone goal in the 83rd minute, there wasn't much to choose between the two teams.

The Falconets' final match will be against Canada before they take on the Group D opponents in the quarterfinals.

Group D consists of the cup-holders Japan, the Netherlands, the United States, and Ghana, the other representative of Africa.
