The Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism in the State, Mr. Yakubu Lawal, was kidnapped, according to a Nasarawa State police operative.
According to information obtained by bendelnews, gunmen abducted Lawal at his home in Nasarawa Eggon, the state's administrative centre for the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government region.
The tragedy, which happened on August 15, 2022, is spreading fear in the state's Nasarawa Eggon LGA, where a teacher was shot and murdered on Saturday.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the information commissioner's home at around 8:45 p.m. and began firing into the air, chasing away neighbourhood residents before kidnapping him.
The incident was also reported to our correspondent by a family source. Before security personnel arrived, it was discovered that the operation had gone on for more than 30 minutes.
According to our correspondent, the incident occurred 48 hours after Auta Nasela, a teacher at Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Nasarawa Eggon LGA, was shot and killed by gunmen at the staff building around 8 p.m. on Saturday. Another teacher was also hurt in the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Rahman Nansel, confirmed the commissioner's kidnapping in a statement on Tuesday morning. He added that the command had already sent operatives to the scene of the incident with the goal of rescuing the victim unharmed.
The police commissioner, Mr. Adesina Soyemi, immediately backed up the men with a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the anti-kidnapping unit, military personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters, he said. Police officers assigned to the Nasarawa Eggon Division rushed to the scene.
"On August 15, 2002, at around 2045 hours, police officers on routine patrol had their attention caught by the sound of sporadic gunfire in the state's Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
When authorities arrived on the site, they learned that gunmen had broken into a man's home and taken him forcibly to an unidentified location while firing intermittently.
The united team is still conducting its search and rescue operation under the direction of Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu, in order to save the victim's life and apprehend the criminals.
