Biodun Oyebanji, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been proclaimed the victor of the governorship election in Ekiti State by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
Oyebanji and his party received a total of 187,057 votes to defeat his nearest opponents, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party and Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The SDP finished second in the polls with 82,211 votes, surpassing the PDP, which finished third with 67,457 votes.
With Oyebanji succeeding incumbent Kayode Fayemi in October, this implies that the All Progressives Congress has retained power in the state.
Nevertheless, just 363,438 voters were registered.
The polls were scheduled to close around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday after opening around 8:30 a.m.
