Both the bishop of the Jebba Diocese of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Oluwaseun Aderogba, and his wife have been taken hostage.
On Sunday evening, unidentified gunmen kidnapped them when they were travelling along the Ogbomoso/Oyo road.
The Bishop's Chaplain, who managed to flee the site of the accident, informed New Telegraph that they were heading from Jebba to Oyo when their car developed a defect when they were just a few kilometres away from Oyo.
"In order to get some assistance, My Lord Bishop summoned the Lord Bishop of Oyo, Bishop Aladekugbe.
"However, before anyone could come to their aid, a group of armed men encircled them and ordered them to run into the nearby brush.
I was quite fortunate. Because I was wearing a black cassock, they did not notice me.
"I fell flat on my belly to hide myself while they led my Bishop and wife deep into the forest," he said. "It was a long and painful journey."
After a few hours, the kidnappers made contact, and at this point they are holding the two hostages for ransom in the amount of N50 million.
