A bear mauls a couple to death and feast on their bodies.

In a brutal jungle killing, a couple was mauled to death and their bodies consumed by a sloth bear.

Mukesh Rai and his wife Gudiya were walking home in Panna, India, when they came across the beast.

Mukesh, 43, and Gudiya, 39, allegedly tried to engage the bear before the savage attack on Sunday, June 5 at around 6.30 a.m.

The bear is thought to have dragged their carcasses to a river and feasted on them for over four hours.

The beast was tranquillized and captured after cops arrived on the scene, which took another two hours.

The bear was taken to a zoo, and the couple's dependents were granted financial aid in the amount of 400,000 rupees.

"The animal will not be released in the forest," Divisional Forest Officer Gaurav Sharma told DNA India. "We plan to send it to a zoo in another city."
