The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to deploy 17, 374 men to preserve law and order in Ekiti State ahead of the gubernatorial election in ten days.
Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, made the announcement on Thursday, shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari presided over a Security Council meeting.
In addition to the Ekiti poll, over 500 alleged criminals have been arrested for a variety of crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, and fraud.
Security services were still working to release passengers kidnapped in the Kaduna-Abuja train raid, according to Alkali.
Security agents, he claimed, were taking care not to descend on terrorist hideouts because of the risk of injuring the victims.
The IG stated that no arrests have been made on the culprits of the Methodist Church Prelate's kidnapping, but that efforts are being undertaken to apprehend them through the ransom paid and those who received the payment.
