The NGX All-Share Index gained 1,005.27 points, representing a 0.41 per cent increase, to close at 244,304.51 points, compared with 243,299.24 points in the previous session.

Market capitalisation also increased by about ₦651.78 billion, rising to approximately ₦158.4 trillion. The latest advance extended the market's positive run to four consecutive trading sessions.

NGX Market Report: Key Figures

Trading activity strengthened during Tuesday's session, with investors exchanging 520.65 million shares in 71,977 deals.

The total value of transactions stood at approximately ₦37.14 billion, while the market's year-to-date return rose to about 56.99 per cent, according to the session report.

Top Gainers on NGX

NGX Group Plc led the gainers after its share price jumped 9.95 per cent, closing at ₦179.00, up from ₦162.80.

Aradel Holdings also recorded a strong performance, gaining 9.62 per cent to close at ₦1,550.00.

Other major gainers included Sovereign Trust Insurance, McNichols Consolidated and International Breweries.

Top Losers

Despite the overall positive market performance, several stocks recorded significant declines.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated led the losers after falling 10 per cent to ₦66.60. Trans-Nationwide Express and Ava Capital also recorded declines of close to the daily limit.

PZ Cussons Nigeria and Prestige Assurance completed the top five decliners.

Most Traded Stocks on NGX

Trading activity was concentrated in several actively traded stocks, with Mutual Benefits Assurance recording the highest single-stock volume during the session.

Mutual Benefits Assurance traded about 39.01 million shares, while Guaranty Trust Holding Company recorded approximately 37.48 million shares.

Other heavily traded stocks included Fidelity Bank, Mansard Insurance and Access Holdings.

In terms of value traded, Aradel Holdings recorded the highest turnover at about ₦6.35 billion, followed by MTN Nigeria, GTCO, NGX Group and Stanbic IBTC.

Sector Performance

The oil and gas sector recorded the strongest sectoral movement during the session.

The NGX Oil and Gas Index rose to 6,035.23 points from 5,814.57 points. The Banking Index also edged higher to 2,548.00 points, while the Consumer Goods Index increased to 4,081.31 points.

The Insurance Index, however, recorded a slight decline during the session.

What Drove Trading?

The latest market advance came amid increased activity across several major stocks and sectors.

NGX Group was the biggest percentage gainer, while Aradel also recorded a strong increase. Banking stocks including GTCO, Zenith Bank and Access Holdings also attracted notable trading activity.

The market was also trading during the opening week of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO, which began on September 14. The IPO has attracted considerable attention across Nigeria's capital market.

However, the positive movement in the overall index did not extend to every listed company, with 34 stocks recording gains against 26 decliners during Tuesday's session.

What Investors Should Watch

Investors will continue to monitor the performance of large-cap stocks, banking equities, energy companies and other highly traded counters in subsequent sessions.

Corporate earnings, dividend announcements, company disclosures and developments surrounding major capital-market transactions could also influence trading activity.

For now, the latest completed NGX session ended with the All-Share Index at 244,304.51 points, while market capitalisation stood at approximately ₦158.4 trillion.
