The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, will emerge as the state’s next governor in 2027.

Wike made the statement on Tuesday while speaking at a reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation representing the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie. Read original

Wike Introduces Chinda As Next Governor

While acknowledging prominent guests at the event, Wike referred to Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives and former Minority Leader of the chamber, as the person who would succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike described Chinda as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”

Chinda is currently representing his constituency in the House of Representatives and is seeking to become governor under the APC in the 2027 election.

If successful at the polls, he would succeed Fubara, who has decided not to seek a second term in office.

The declaration adds to growing political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State, with major political actors already positioning themselves for the contest.
