Obi said the environment had become one where intimidation, suspicion and discouragement often work against sincere public service. He also said some people who publicly align with him privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism.
The former Anambra governor stressed that his decision was not a personal attack on ADC leaders, including David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, whom he said he still respects. He added that unresolved political battles, court cases and internal division were distracting the party from national issues.
He also dismissed any suggestion that he is chasing power for its own sake. “I am not desperate to be President,” he said, adding that his real concern is a country where people can live in dignity. He ended with his familiar line: “A new Nigeria is possible.”
