Closed-Door Talks Fuel Speculation Ahead of 2027 Political Realignments
The high-level meeting between Obi, Kwankwaso and Dickson has triggered fresh discussions about possible alliances and political movements ahead of future elections.
A fresh political development emerged on Sunday as Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso arrived at the residence of Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), for a closed-door meeting.
Sources close to the gathering said the meeting was aimed at finalising discussions surrounding a new political movement involving key opposition figures in the country.
The meeting reportedly took place shortly after Obi announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to information made available earlier, the former Labour Party presidential candidate cited internal party disagreements and unresolved legal concerns as reasons for leaving the party.
Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate and political leader in Kano, was also seen entering the venue alongside Obi as discussions continued behind closed doors.
Although details of the meeting had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report, political observers believe the development may signal a fresh round of coalition talks ahead of future political contests in Nigeria.
A source familiar with the development stated that the discussions were focused on “perfecting their final political movement,” though no formal announcement had been made by any of the politicians involved.
Neither Obi nor Kwankwaso addressed journalists before entering the meeting venue.
More details are expected to emerge as the meeting continues. Read more
