The promotion exercise affects officers serving in various commands and formations nationwide. According to the Nigeria Police Force, 165 Sergeants were promoted to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals advanced to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables moved up to the rank of Corporal.

The latest development is part of ongoing efforts by the police leadership to recognize hard work, encourage professionalism, and strengthen personnel welfare across the country.

Speaking on the promotion exercise, IGP Disu said career advancement remains an important part of the Force's strategy for motivating officers and improving service delivery.

“Timely promotion remains a critical component of the Force's human resource management strategy and a key tool for motivating officers to remain committed to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities,” he stated.

The police chief explained that the promotion of deserving officers reflects the commitment of the current leadership to merit, career growth, and institutional development within the Force.

He congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as an opportunity to demonstrate greater professionalism and commitment to duty.

“Your promotion should serve as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to service,” Disu said.

He further encouraged the officers to uphold the values of the Nigeria Police Force, respect human rights, maintain integrity, and remain committed to the rule of law while carrying out their responsibilities.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains focused on rewarding excellence, recognizing hard work, and strengthening its operational capacity in line with global policing standards.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 30, 2026.
