The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, Muhammed Gambo, has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Court of Appeal ruling that voided the PDP’s Ibadan convention. He said the judgment showed that the opposition party still retains support across the country.
The Supreme Court gave the ruling on Thursday, with three justices in the five-member panel backing the decision that nullified the convention, while two others held that the appeal had merit. Gambo said the verdict had strengthened the party’s position and called on aggrieved members to support the new leadership.
He said the PDP remained attractive to Nigerians and insisted that many citizens were now comparing the present situation in the country with the years when the party was in power. In his words, Nigerians were still “yearning for the PDP,” while he argued that the party had once delivered better prosperity and lower insecurity.
Gambo also said Kogi State was positioned for stronger political gains ahead of the 2027 election. He urged residents to unite behind the PDP, register in the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise, and back efforts to remove the All Progressives Congress from power in the state.
He further praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his role in preventing the party from being taken over by people he said were trying to hijack it. Gambo also commended the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led national leadership, saying it had the capacity to reposition the PDP for victory in 2027.
