In a press statement released on April 21, 2026, the bank said it has observed a growing circulation of fake emails, messages, and digital communications designed to mislead the public and compromise personal information.

According to the statement, these messages often urge recipients to click suspicious links and spread false claims about the bank’s leadership, licensing, and policies. The ultimate aim, the bank noted, is to gain access to users’ personal and financial data.

Speaking on the development, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, stressed the need for vigilance.

“Members of the public must exercise caution and avoid engaging with unverified links or platforms claiming to represent the CBN,” she said.

She further advised Nigerians to rely only on the bank’s official website for accurate information.

“All legitimate communications from the Central Bank can be confirmed through our official channels and recognised media outlets,” Ali added.

The apex bank urged citizens not to share sensitive information on suspicious platforms and to report any suspected fraud to relevant law enforcement agencies.

The statement also reaffirmed the CBN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity measures in collaboration with other institutions, aimed at protecting the country’s financial system from digital threats.
