The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed to take revenge following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Read original
In a statement released on Sunday and shared by Hezbollah, the powerful Iranian military force warned that those behind Khamenei’s death “will not escape severe, decisive, and deterrent punishment.”
The IRGC stressed that Iran’s armed forces, alongside the Basij militias, are prepared to confront what it described as both “internal and external conspiracies.” It further declared that those responsible would face a “deterrent and exemplary response.”
The statement also urged citizens to remain united and demonstrate national solidarity in defense of the country during what it called a critical moment.
The reaction came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Khamenei had died following coordinated strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. Trump labeled the Iranian leader “one of the most evil people in history” and described the military action as an opportunity for Iranians to reclaim their nation.
He added that the bombings would continue until peace is secured across the region and beyond.
During Khamenei’s tenure, the IRGC expanded significantly in power and influence, eventually becoming Iran’s dominant military force, surpassing the regular army in strategic importance.
