“Trump thinks he destroyed Iran’s nuclear industry,” the Supreme Leader declared during a televised address in Tehran. “Very well, let him continue to live in this delusion.”
The remark, delivered with unmistakable sarcasm, comes amid renewed international scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear activities and ongoing diplomatic tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Trump, during his presidency, withdrew the United States from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal — and imposed crippling sanctions on Iran, claiming his “maximum pressure” strategy had brought the country’s nuclear ambitions to a halt.
However, Iranian officials have repeatedly insisted that their nuclear program not only survived the sanctions but also advanced significantly in the years following the U.S. withdrawal.
Analysts say the Supreme Leader’s latest remarks reflect Iran’s confidence that its nuclear capabilities remain intact and possibly stronger than before.
While Washington continues to call for Iran to curb uranium enrichment and return to the original deal, Tehran maintains that the U.S. must first lift all sanctions and respect its sovereignty.
