JUST IN: Fubara Reinstated as Rivers State Governor as Sole Administrator Bows Out.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has formally handed over power to the reinstated Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas urged Rivers people to rally behind Fubara as he resumes leadership following a six-month suspension expiration.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara and declared emergency rule in Rivers State earlier this year, appointing Ibas to oversee governance. The president lifted the emergency rule on Tuesday, restoring Fubara to office.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ibas expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve during what he described as an “extraordinary moment” in the state’s history.

“Law and order has been restored, local government elections have been conducted, and chairmen elected by the people now serve in office,” he said. “Statutory boards and commissions have been reconstituted and are performing their duties, while the state budget has been passed by the National Assembly, providing a legitimate framework for governance.”

The retired naval chief noted that these achievements were made possible by the resilience of the people and warned against the dangers of unchecked power and political rivalry without dialogue.

Handing over to Fubara, Ibas called for unity and cooperation. “I urge all Rivers people to support him wholeheartedly because leadership and followership is a shared responsibility. No matter how competent and clear a vision may be, it can only thrive with the active support of citizens,” he said.

He concluded by describing his assignment as another chapter of service — following his career at sea, in diplomacy, and now governance.
