The teacher at Bolekehang Intermediate School in the Free State released a heartfelt video on her TikTok account last Tuesday, January 17, during the start of classes. The video highlighted the challenges that some of her students were facing.
In the video, students in her class can be seen sporting torn, worn-out shoes; one student is even seen donning sneakers in place of the required school shoes.
The footage shows Ms. Plaatjies taking the brand-new school shoes off of each student's packing and placing them on their desk.
The teacher asserts that every student in her class will appear equal, regardless of the financial status of their family.
“They come from different families, but they should be equal in my class,” she said.
