On Wednesday, hours after declaring they had ousted the government, the coup leaders in Gabon said that President Ali Bongo Ondimba was placed under house arrest and that one of his sons had been detained for "treason."

When they proclaimed that they were "putting an end to the current regime," the military chiefs made this statement on national television.

  5. What is happening in Gabon? This morning it was announced that a coup has taken place. Was the coup a successful one as announced? The president Ali Bongo has being in power for over 50 years. African leaders should learn to leave power when the ovatin is high.
