In response to the unfortunate loss of Nigerian Airforce officers in an aircraft crash in Niger State, Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, has issued a statement.
As previously reported by Gistlover, the MI-171 helicopter of the Nigerian Air Force crashed in Niger State, killing at least thirty persons.
On Monday, August 14, 2023, after the jet took off from Kaduna on its way to Minna, the capital of the Niger state, it was discovered that the unfortunate tragedy happened near Chukuba, a village in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
Peter Obi responded by expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased and describing the country's security situation as terrible in a statement on his verified Twitter profile on Thursday.
A comprehensive inquiry was ordered by the previous governor of Anambra State to ascertain what caused the tragedy, which many Nigerians have lamented.
Obi pointed out that the country's dreadful degree of insecurity continues to be embarrassing, costing valuable lives and property, with the ensuing financial implications.
In order to prevent future incidents like this one, Obi offered his sympathies to the families of the troops who died in the crash and urged a thorough inquiry to ascertain what caused it.
"I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate crash of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter on a casualty evacuation mission, near Chukuba Village in Niger State," he stated in his letter.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the brave servicemen who perished in that catastrophe. I genuinely sympathize with the Nigerian Air Force as well over this tragic tragedy and implore them as well as other security agencies to not be disheartened by the difficulties but rather to view them as our route to establishing a safe and secure country.
"As a means of preventing similar incidents in the future, I would also like to support the conduct of a thorough inquiry to determine the reason of the crash.
"We will never stop fighting for our country. We will never give up on our nation. It is our greatest heritage in whose service all our sacrifices become noble acts,” Obi added.
