Sleep is a critical component of our overall health, and the quality of your sleep is incredibly important. Many people don't realize that snoring can be a symptom of a larger, more severe issue. If you’re snoring at night, you may want to consider seeing a doctor. Snoring *may* be a symptom of sleep apnea. During episodes of sleep apnea, breathing pauses or becomes shallow, leading to decreased oxygen levels in the blood (hypoxia). These fluctuations in oxygen can disrupt the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system. Sleep apnea can also increase the likelihood of developing irregular heart rhythms or arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation (AFib). The episodes of low oxygen levels and the resulting stress on the heart can disrupt the electrical signals that regulate the heart's rhythm. While snoring may seem harmless, it can indicate that something bigger is going on. Don’t sleep on getting it checked out."
