SERAP: We're suing the Tinubu administration for its absurd and illegal 114% pay rise for the president, government officials and others.

SERAP promises to take Tinubu to court over the president, government officials, and others' 114% pay rise.

The President Bola Tinubu administration's contentious proposed pay rise for senior government officials has prompted the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, or SERAP, to threaten legal action against the administration.

According to Bendelnews, the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission has recommended raising the starting pay for those holding judicial and political office.

This was revealed by the RMAFC commissioner from Kebbi State, Mrs. Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, who was acting in place of the commission's chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Shehu, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi when he presented the state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, with the updated compensation packages for those holding political and judicial office.

The key office holders who would gain from the proposed pay include the president, his vice president, lawmakers, judges, and the 36 state governors.

In a tweet on its Twitter account, SERAP responded by calling the salary increases absurd and lamented the fact that more than 133 million Nigerians are currently living in extreme poverty.

We're suing the Tinubu administration for its absurd and illegal 114% pay rise for the president, vice president, state governors, and lawmakers, while over 133 million Nigerians suffer in abject poverty, according to the tweet.
