Gerard Pique, a defender for Barcelona, made the announcement of his retirement on Thursday.
The 35-year-old player has stated that the upcoming encounter at the Camp Nou will be his final home match.
He plans to hang up his shoes after Barcelona's away game the following week, just before the Spanish league comes to a halt for a few weeks due to the World Cup.
Pique will play his last game on Saturday, which will be a contest between Barcelona and Almeria.
The statement was made by the Spaniard via social media and read as follows: "I've always claimed that there would be no other team after Barcelona and that's how it will be."
"The match on this coming Saturday will be the last time you see me play at the Camp Nou.
"My parents instilled in me a love for Barcelona, and I intend to do the same for my own children," I said, "I will become another fan and support the team."
