During a gunfight, Kwara State police command personnel killed two alleged kidnappers.

When they attempted to split the ransom money with the families of the two abducted victims, Daily Post learned that they were confronted in the bushes.

Afusat Lawal (f) and her son Taofeek Lawal were reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday in Shao Town, Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State.

According to a statement released on Wednesday in Ilorin by the State Police Command spokesperson, Okasanmi Ajayi, they were kidnapped and taken away at around 23:20 hours.

After a lengthy and arduous search and rescue effort by the Command's tactical forces, assisted by Vigilante and hunters, he announced the recovery of the victims.

According to Okasanmi, "the kidnappers were confronted in the bush while trying to distribute the ransom money obtained from the victims' families; they instantly opened fire on the operatives upon being seen.

Two of the kidnappers who were shot during the encounter were detained and transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where their demise was later determined to have occurred.

As a result, the hospital mortuary received their bodies for autopsy.

A single barrel pistol, an unidentified quantity of cash, and a Honda Accord saloon with registration number LAGOS GJ 52 LSR were among the items the spokesperson said were retrieved from the kidnappers.

He stated that efforts are still being made with greater vigor to apprehend other gang members who are running away.

Okasanmi said that after being deemed medically stable, the rescued victims were reunited with their families.
