Following the passing of the Queen, the Royal Mint releases a picture of the first King Charles coin.

The first appearance of King Charles III on coins has been made public.

The first new coin to feature the new king will be the 50p coin, which will go into circulation in December.

According to MyLondon, the King's image will first start appearing on a unique £5 Crown and 50p coins honoring the Queen.

"We think customers to be able to receive the commemorative range from October," said Nicola Howell, chief commercial officer of the Royal Mint. "We expect the 50p memorial circulating coin to be appearing in people's change probably from December."

The King's effigy was created by Martin Jennings, and according to the Mint, Charles personally approved of it.

"Charles has followed the general pattern that we have in British coinage, going all the way back to Charles II actually, where the king faces in the opposite direction from their predecessor," said Chris Barker of the Royal Mint Museum.

"Dignified and graceful, which reflects his years of service," he said of the portrait.

CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • 5 POUNDS • 2022 is written around the effigy in Latin and means, "King Charles III, by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith."

Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Mint, Anne Jessopp, stated: "Since more than 1,100 years ago, the Royal Mint has been trusted to produce coins with the effigy of the reigning royal, and we are pleased to carry on this tradition under King Charles III.

"Even though technology has advanced, we still value British workmanship that has been passed down through the ages.

"Millions of coins will be printed with an accurate duplicate of the King's effigy thanks to our team of talented modelers, tool manufacturers, and engravers.

"This commemorative collection honors the exceptional legacy of Her Late Majesty, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, who reigned with love and loyalty for 70 years.

"The 50p will also enter circulation in the UK to guarantee that everyone can have a piece of history in their hand."
