Tolulope Philips, a Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Abeokuta South, Ogun State, has stated that if the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were to be put into power without the support of dependable members of the National Assembly, he might be impeached.
According to Philips, the National Assembly has the authority to oust a president from office, particularly if that president does not enjoy the support of the majority.
In order to protect the mandate they would be giving to the presidential candidate, the candidate asked those who were supporting Obi to make sure they voted for other Labour Party candidates.
"I am aware that many of you are OBIdients. You adore Peter Obi, our presidential contender and a former governor.
You all want to vote for him, I know that. Please vote for the party's other candidates, particularly those running for the National Assembly.
This is so that Peter Obi won't be impeached if he is elected president without a majority in the National Assembly.
They can get rid of him. He would therefore require devoted legislators in the legislative halls," Philips remarked.
The LP candidate warned Nigerians to stay away from both the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while addressing people of the Ayeni community in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State (PDP).
He insisted that "the two major political parties are to blame for the situation the country is in."
He bemoaned the APC and the PDP's continuous use of veteran politicians, who he claimed were responsible for the current state of the country.
The Olabisi Onabanjo University alumnus expressed confidence that the Labour Party will rule the country in 2023 and urged the populace to register to vote and cast their entire ballots for the party.
