Nigeria Electricity Workers Issue Strike Warnings.

Because of ongoing labour disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria, organised labour has told power sector employees to stop working as of tomorrow (Wednesday), and a strike that would last indefinitely, which could deepen Nigeria's electricity supply situation (TCN).

On Tuesday, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) descended at the TCN's Abuja headquarters.

The disgruntled employees protested that the Federal Government of Nigeria had allegedly failed to pay the benefits due to former employees of the now-defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in December 2019.

They claimed that this serves as a warm-up for an ongoing strike that would begin on August 17.

Joe Ajaero, the general secretary of NUEE, gave the employees instructions to ensure complete compliance in a circular headlined "call to action," pledging to halt TCN operations throughout Nigeria due to its anti-masses activities.

As a result of this standoff, Nigeria's electrical supply problem could get worse starting tomorrow.

The following instruction was included in the circular: "You are hereby enjoined to mobilise immediately for serious picketing of TCN Headquarters and stations across the country over the directive by the TCN Board that all PMs serving in an acting capacity attending the AGM must appear for a promotion interview.

The whole removal of services starts on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, and this step goes into effect on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Make sure that every station countrywide is in complete compliance.
