Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has responded to claims that Olusegun Obasanjo is coordinating with northern stakeholders to ensure he replaces President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
According to DAILY POST, on Tuesday, Mahdi Shehu, the Chairman of the Dialogue Group under the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, claimed that Obasanjo had been meeting with the Northern Elders Forum's leadership to support Obi.
Obasanjo recently paid visits to notable figures in the North, according to Shehu, who appeared in an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday. She added that he is "mobilising the Northern Elders Forum and the entire northerners to Obi project."
Shehu claims that Obasanjo assured the elders that if Obi is elected president, they would be a part of the government.
He said, "Obasanjo has abruptly awoken from his sleep to help Obi."
In response, Mr. Obi said on the Arise TV morning show on Wednesday that "Obasanjor selling my candidacy is not bad."
