Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has mandated an investigation into remarks made by infamous musician Habeeb Okikiola, commonly known as Portable, claiming he formed a cult.
In a popular video, Portable bragged of founding the cult organisation "One Million Boys."
Many areas of Lagos and Ogun states had experienced instability due to the gang.
The cult's founders' identities and sponsors had remained a mystery.
But Portable asserted he established the group in the eight-second video posted online.
"Listen to me well, have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I'm their founder," the divisive artist proclaimed. Go speak with Sammy Larry.
But in a statement released on Monday, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, claimed that the IGP had instructed the Lagos police commissioner to look into the matter.
The message said: "In response to the popular video of one Habeeb Okikiola, nicknamed Portable, in which he claimed to have founded the One Million Boys cult organisation terrorising several areas of Lagos State, the IGP has directed CP Lagos to look into the accusatory allegation and take appropriate legal action.
This order is based on the Nigeria Police Force's ongoing efforts to identify the leaders and financiers of cults, demolish their operations, and bring society back to normal.
