JUST IN: Bordeaux has been authorised to compete in Ligue 2 only three days before the season begins.

Just three days before the start of the season, Bordeaux has been given the go-ahead to stay in Ligue 2.

Due to financial issues, the team was in danger of being relegated to French football's third division.

Following a DNCG (National Directorate of Management Control) investigation into their financial situation, Les Girondins, who were relegated after finishing last season's Ligue 1 campaign at the bottom, were informed last month that they would compete in the Championnat National for the 2022–23 season.

The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed that this month's sanctions against the six-time champions of France, who reportedly have debts of close to €40 million, will stand. Despite this, the French team immediately announced their intention to appeal.

However, Bordeaux received excellent news on Wednesday when they learned they would not be demoted further after proving the club's "present and future financial strength."

The French Football Federation's executive committee approved the recommendations made by the National Olympic and Sporting Committee (CNOSF) on July 25. According to a statement on the club's official website, FC Girondins de Bordeaux will be able to compete in Ligue 2 this season.

The FFF has now formally acknowledged our club's present and future financial stability as well as the fact that we are more than ready to compete in Ligue 2 this season in accordance with all applicable sporting regulations, following the lead of the Commercial Court and the CNOSF.

On Saturday, Bordeaux is slated to play Valenciennes in their opening match of Ligue 2, but it is uncertain if the match will go place.
