Community Shield: Guardiola Congratulates Liverpool As He Admits They Were The Better Side.

The Community Shield encounter between Manchester City and Liverpool ended in a 3-1 loss for Pep Guardiola's team.

Before Mohamed Salah's penalty and a Darwin Nunez header gave the Reds the victory, Julian Alvarez's goal on his debut had cancelled out Trent Alexander-opening Arnold's score.

Guardiola stated, as cited by City's official website: "Congratulations to Liverpool. They were better for the first 15 to 20 minutes.

"We arrived when they left space and attempted to attack after we had our game, and the following 25 minutes were pretty similar.

"In the second half, we got off to a great start. There was our game. Even in the first half, we generated enough opportunities to win against this club.

The Premier League title defence for Guardiola's team will now start against West Ham the following Sunday.
