On Wednesday, three kidnapping suspects were captured by local vigilantes in the Rumuekini neighbourhood of Rivers State's Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

In two buses carrying roughly 25 schoolchildren, the suspects were detained.

According to Job Peter, a local vigilante, the suspects arrived in two buses with students between the ages of five and twelve.

He added that as the second bus departed, one of the buses was captured.

It was not known, however, if any of the schoolchildren were on board the bus that took off.

According to Job, the suspects said they were taking the kids to Egbeda in Rivers State's Emuoha Local Government Area to register to vote before the suspects and kids were turned over to the police.

A different vigilante group member claimed that N1,000 was used to attract the kids.

The Rivers State Police Command's spokesman, Grace Iringe-Koko, has guaranteed that an inquiry into the case has begun in the interim.
