According to Osun State's Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the state's surveillance helicopter is now grounded but getting maintenance.
Governor Oyetola revealed this while participating in the BBC Yoruba gubernatorial debate on Thursday in Osogbo.
The governor noted that the State government's difficulty was the cost of the repair after describing that the helicopter was undergoing technical refurbishment.
The helicopter that Osun State owns and uses for security surveillance is currently being repaired, but the cost of doing so would be enough to purchase a new one. As a result, a decision must be made, he said.
Under Rauf Aregbesola's leadership, the Osun State Government spent N500,000.000.00 on the aforementioned helicopter in an effort to combat state-wide insecurity.
As some claimed that the then-governor and members of his family were using the helicopter for personal purposes, the chopper purchase did not go without causing controversy throughout the State.
Others believed that the helicopter had been sold right away after Rauf Aregbesola's administration.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, a candidate for governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), brought up the subject of the surveillance helicopter during the discussion.
At the discussion, there were three additional candidates for governor: Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party, and Lasun Yusuff of the Labour Party.
