Jonathan Ukpo Nwanmini, the younger brother of David Ukpo Nwanmini, who is said to have been a victim of organ trafficking in the UK involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, has spoken out about the controversy over his brother's age.
David's passport, which was posted online, showed that he is 22 years old, but he is said to have told Metropolitan police detectives that he is 15. His brother told Sunday Vanguard that David is 25 years old.
He also said that David told him he was going to school abroad. Jonathan said;
"David is my older brother because we were both born in Ebonyi State and have the same father but different mothers. Next month, I'll be 22 years old, and David will be 25. I know he went somewhere because he told me so.
He didn't say where in the world he was going. He just told me that he was going to school in another country.
"After not hearing from him for a while, I asked his girlfriend for his number and called him. I asked him about school and work.
"He said it was fine, but he wasn't working yet because he had to go to school first before he could get a working paper. I told him that our dad wasn't doing well.
"This is what we talked about this month, since he was gone in January. Before he left, he stayed with us here in Ikotun. We both sell things that go with phones. We spoke last week. This week, we even talked again."
Another Ikotun businessman who asked not to be named told Sunday Vanguard that;
"In January, David left Nigeria. Someone had promised to pay for his education in the UK, he told us. He never said the person's name, but from what I've read online, it sounds like the person might have been a middleman between David and the former Deputy Speaker.
Remember that on Thursday, June 23, the Metropolitan Police said that Ekweremadu and his wife were being charged with bringing a child named David to the UK so that his organs could be taken.
