Due to the player's height, Manchester United is going to abandon their pursuit of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. Martinez stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall.
And the choice might work out well for Arsenal, who are competing with other teams to sign the player as they are also in the running.
The Gunners, managed by Mikel Arteta, have already demonstrated an interest in the player and have alerted Ajax that they are prepared to pay €30 million (£25.8 million) for the versatile Argentine this summer.
It is believed that United manager Erik ten Hag is interested in reconciling with his former star player at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils have not yet made an approach to discuss the possibility.
Ajax are determined to keep Martinez at the club for at least one more season, so they have placed their asking price for him at €50 million (around £43 million).
David Ornstein, a reporter for The Athletic, has disclosed information suggesting that Arsenal are really serious in acquiring the Argentina player now playing for Ajax.
He stated that Manchester United would be interested in the player for the center-back position; however, the physical standards for that position are not met by him.
According to a statement that Ornstein gave to HaytersTV, "Lisandro Martinez is a strong target for Arsenal for the left center-back post, and he can also function at left-back in the mind of Arsenal."
"Of course, he has previously played for Erik ten Hag, and there are rumours that Erik ten Hag would like to bring him to United at this time.
"There may also be doubts as to whether or not Lisandro Martinez is tall enough for the left center-back job because I don't know of Manchester United looking to do what Arsenal would like, which is to utilise him at left-back as well. Arsenal would like to use him in both positions.
He stated, "Taking everything into consideration, I believe Arsenal to be the most likely destination for Lisandro Martinez."
