On March 28, 2022, armed men who are thought to be terrorists killed nine people and injured others on a train travelling between Kaduna and Abuja before kidnapping passengers on the train.
After reaching an agreement with the Federal Government on Saturday, eleven of the victims were allowed to leave the facility.
In the event that the federal government does not agree to negotiate with the terrorists, the terrorists have threatened to begin killing the victims.
It was confirmed that this event took place by Tukur Mamu, publisher of the Desert Herald. Mamu also acted as a mediator.
He claimed that his sources had confided in him that the terrorists released the male captives due to health reasons, and he added that the women were among the most vulnerable people who were being held captive.
"It was initially expected that all of the abducted women would be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women they initially agreed to release because the Nigerian Government had demanded that they include those with life-threatening injuries among the released," he said. "It was initially expected that all of the abducted women would be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue."
At the time that this report was being written, the identities of the victims who had been set free had not been established.
