Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that he is in talks with his Labour Party colleague, Peter Obi.
In terms of a possible merger between the NNPP and the LP, Kwankwaso and Obi are looking at the possibility of working together in the 2023 elections.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, he made the remarks.
"We're genuinely talking to Peter Obi, or at least stating the committee is looking into the subject (and cooperating with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it," Kwankwaso said.
He emphasised the importance of their partnership because neither the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had fielded an Igbo vice presidential candidate.
Obi announced Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesman, as his running mate on Friday.
