2023: Islamic group advises Atiku against choosing Wike as running mate.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, against appointing Nyesome Wike, the governor of Rivers State, as his running mate.

According to MURIC, the Rivers State Governor is purportedly one of the Nigerian Muslims' "blacklist" of prejudiced Christian governors.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, the director of the Islamic organisation, signed and circulated a statement that echoed this sentiment.

The group stated that it has learned that Wike is being considered by the PDP and Atiku as a prospective vice presidential candidate, and that it felt compelled to warn the party and its presidential candidate against such a move.

According to the statement, "Wike is an open opponent of Islam, a Muslim-hater primus inter pareil, and an unrepentant mosque destroyer."

"Wike's radical views are still on the record. In contravention of the constitution, he declared Rivers State a Christian state," the group's statement states in part.

If the Rivers State Governor becomes Nigeria's vice president, the Islamic rights group thinks that he will worsen the situation and create an unfriendly climate for Muslims in the country.

"Wike should not be allowed to hold any federal office," according to the MURIC.

According to the group, "Wike despises mosques" and is prepared to utilise his position as Nigeria's number two citizen to demolish all mosques.

According to MURIC, the governor is "intolerant, unpredictable, and violently inclined," and Muslims in Nigeria do not trust him.

Wike, who finished second in the PDP's presidential primary contest, "will undoubtedly be a terrible market for Atiku," according to the rights group.

Wike, according to MURIC, has little electoral worth at the national level and, as a result, should be ignored by the main opposition party.

"As a result, we advise Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to stay away from Wike at all costs," MURIC said.
