Mr Aminu Alhassan, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River, has denied reports that 20 people were killed in the state's Boki Local Government Area on Sunday.
On Monday, he informed the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) that there had been no attacks in the local government area.
The report was not only fictitious, but also a "figment of the writer's imagination," according to the commissioner, who reminded media to always double-check facts before publishing.
"There was no militancy attack in Boki Local Government Area, let alone killing 20 people as the story claims."
